Our photography tours are designed for anyone with a passion for landscape photography, from enthusiastic beginners through to more experienced photographers. The focus is on learning, exploring, and creating images in some of New Zealand’s most inspiring locations, rather than on technical ability alone.
Whether you are looking to build confidence with your camera or refine your existing skills, the tours are structured to support a wide range of experience levels.
You should be comfortable using your DSLR or mirrorless camera and changing basic settings such as lenses and shooting modes. Photographers from beginner enthusiasts through to more experienced levels are welcome on the tour.
A moderate level of fitness is recommended.
Some locations involve short walks with camera gear, and occasionally uneven terrain or early starts for sunrise photography. The tours are not physically extreme, but you should be comfortable carrying your own equipment and walking for short periods.
Group sizes are kept to a maximum of 6 to ensure a relaxed, personal experience and to allow plenty of individual guidance.
This also helps minimise impact on locations and ensures a more flexible approach to changing light and conditions.
A DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses is ideal. A wide-angle lens is highly recommended for landscapes, along with a mid-range zoom for flexibility. A sturdy tripod is essential for low-light and long-exposure photography.
If you have them, filters such as polarising, ND, and graduated ND filters can also be very useful. A full recommended gear list is provided prior to the tour.
Our accommodation is in quality hotels, apartment studios or chalets depending on the location.
Accommodation is full single supplement ie your own room – we believe at the end of a full day of photography you will relax and refresh the best with your own room.
We generally find that there are a variety of meal options applied across a typical tour. Breakfast will normally be at a cafe after a dawn photo shoot – that first coffee can be really rewarding after a early morning on location.
We always allow time to get supplies at supermarkets, bakeries or cafe’s and lunch is usually spent along the way, often in some superb spots. Dinner is usually after our evening photo shoot at a local restaurant where we can relax after a great day of photography.
To keep the cost of our tours as manageable as possible meals are not included in the tour price.
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for all participants. This should cover travel disruption, personal belongings, and any unforeseen changes to plans or conditions during the tour.
You will learn a wide range of practical landscape photography skills, including composition, working with natural light, long exposures, and using filters effectively in the field. The focus is on learning through real-world shooting rather than classroom-style instruction.
Yes – if it is practical for you, you are welcome to bring a laptop. During the tour we spend some time reviewing and discussing images, which can be a valuable part of the learning process.
We also cover key aspects of post-processing and workflow, including Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as how to approach editing your images to bring out the best results.
Yes this is fine and normal booking is required.
This person should consider that this is a landscape photography orientated tour where our focus is getting to and being at amazing scenes often early in the morning and well into the evening. Photography is about patience and we don’t rush at these amazing locations.
